Submit screenshots
Have screenshots that belong in the archive? Send Dylan a download link by email at support@941archive.com or by DM on Twitter at @dylanmcd8. Please share the original, uncompressed files whenever possible.
Credit and submission terms
Every accepted submission will include credit to the uploader. Please include the name or handle you would like displayed.
By submitting files, you confirm that you are the original creator of the files, or otherwise have permission from the original creator, and agree to the terms on the Copyright and use page. You retain your rights, while granting the 9:41 Archive a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, organize, reproduce, resize or compress, display, distribute, and make the files available as part of the archive. The archive's copy of each submitted file will be treated as part of the 9:41 Archive collection, but this license does not prevent you from continuing to use or license your own work.
These terms are what allow me to store and distribute the images as part of the 9:41 Archive. If you would like to submit but are uncomfortable with these terms, please send an email to support@941archive.com and we can work something out!
Screenshot guidance
When creating screenshots, please do as many of the following as possible:
Required
- Set the time to the proper marketing time:
- iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS; iPod touch 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen: 9:42 AM
- iPhone 4 and later, iPod touch 4th gen and later, and all iPads: 9:41 AM
- Apple Watch: 10:09:30 AM
- Apple Vision Pro: 11:20 AM
- Set the language to American English and all format, locale, and date options to United States.
- Use the default Home Screen layout (Settings → Reset → Reset Home Screen Layout).
- Turn off battery percentage, connect to Wi-Fi, and make sure no alarms are enabled.
- Include screenshots of the Lock Screen and Home Screen.
Suggested
- Set the date to the device's release day.
- If the device has marketing wallpapers (most Apple products iPhone 5S and newer do), please take screenshots for those as well as the default wallpaper for the OS version.
- When setting a wallpaper, disable the Parallax Zoom option.
- Disconnect any Bluetooth devices except Apple Watch, AirPods, or other Apple accessories.
- On iPadOS, disable “Show Suggested and Recent Apps in Dock”.
- If there were notable new features that work well in a screenshot, please include those (example: Touch ID setup on iPhone 5S).
- Screenshots of the built-in apps are especially welcome.
Tips
- Can't find the marketing wallpapers for your device? Send me an email at dylan@941archive.com!
- You can likely use QuickTime on your Mac to give you a proper “default” status bar. Just plug the device into your Mac, open QuickTime, choose File → New Movie Recording, and then set your device as the “camera”.
- If you have to set the system date back more than ~5 years, iOS will likely glitch out and start “time traveling” when you change the date. To get around this, first set the date back around half way (or as close as you can get), restart the device, then finish setting back the date.
